Overview
The scope is the foundation of the estimate. Everything downstream — pricing, invoices, purchase orders — is built from it. This is where reviewing pays for itself, because a scope item you fix here is one line to change instead of a dozen priced lines later.
Every project with a scope has a Scope tab in the left navigation.
What's on the Scope tab
Summary — the AI's plain-language description of the project, plus item and category counts and when the scope was created and last updated.
Files — the plans the scope was extracted from. Click through to open one.
Scope tab — every scope item, grouped by category.
Measurements tab — the same information organized by measurement instead of by item.
Two buttons in the header:
Options — Download the scope, or Delete it.
Edit Scope — open the editable scope with the Assistant.
Reading the scope table
Item: The work, with a description underneath. If the description starts with "assumed:", the AI estimated rather than measured — and it shows you its arithmetic.
Tags: Your own labels, e.g. wall or door types (D1, W3).
Location: Where in the project the work sits, e.g. Exterior Perimeter, Site.
Source: An AI badge and a confidence score ranked from High, Medium, Low. See Confidence Scores and Verifying AI Quantities.
Measurements: The quantity and its type, color-coded — Area, Count, Volume, Length and so on.
Reference: The sheet the number came from, e.g. A0.1, S2.1.
Use Search items to jump to a trade or item, and the Type filter to show only one measurement type at a time.
Tracing an item back to the drawing
Click any row. A detail panel opens showing the item's color, description, tags, location, its measurements with quantities, and the sheet reference — and the plan viewer jumps to the referenced sheet.
This is the chain of evidence: every number in the scope points to the sheet it came from, so you can check it rather than take it on faith.
Downloading the scope
Click Options → Download to save a copy of the scope. This is worth doing before you make substantial edits, so you have a record of what the AI originally produced.
Editing the scope
Click Edit Scope to open the editable version. There you can:
Change the Site Address and the Summary that the client eventually sees.
Edit any item's name, description, tags, location, quantities and units directly in the table.
Use the ⋮ menu on a category to Add Item or Add Category, or the + Add Item link at the end of a category.
Click on the Line Item you'd like to edit and you can change any details of the line item including name, description, location, tag, measurements.
Ask the Assistant for changes in plain language — "add wall tile to the primary bathroom, about 120 sq ft". Use Hide Assistant to give the table full width.
Measure a quantity directly off the drawings with Edit Takeoff rather than accepting an AI assumption — see Using the Takeoff Tool.
Generating the estimate from your edited scope
Once the scope looks right, click Generate Estimate to price it.
⚠️ If an estimate already exists for this project, generating replaces it. The current estimate is deleted and a new one is built from the updated scope. Manual line-item edits, fees, discounts, and markup adjustments on the old estimate are not carried over. KonstructIQ warns you before this happens — read the confirmation dialog, because it can't be undone.

Two Assistant tools worth knowing
In the Assistant panel, after the scope is generated:
Show sheet inventory — every sheet listed as page number, sheet number, sheet type and description (e.g. Pg 21 | S1.0 | Structural Plan | Main and upper level framing plans). The fastest way to confirm the AI read your set correctly.
Show page-to-trade map — for each trade, which sheets are Primary and which are Shared. If a trade shows Primary: None, the AI found no dedicated sheet for it — treat those quantities as assumptions.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
A quantity is wrong. Edit it on the scope table, or measure it properly with Edit Takeoff so the number comes from the drawing.
An item is in the wrong category. Edit the item's Category, or ask the Assistant to move it.
A whole trade is missing. Check Show page-to-trade map first — if the trade has no primary sheet, the source drawings may not cover it. Add the items manually, or upload the missing sheets and regenerate.
I already generated the estimate and need to change the scope. See Adjusting Your Scope After an Estimate Is Generated. Small changes can go through the AI Assistant without touching the scope; larger ones mean editing the scope and regenerating, which replaces the existing estimate.
Will editing the scope change my estimate automatically? No. Scope edits only reach the estimate when you click Generate Estimate — and at that point the existing estimate is replaced rather than updated.

Quick Reference
Find it: project → Scope in the left navigation.
Trace a number: click the row → the plan viewer opens the referenced sheet.
