Overview
Sometimes the AI-generated estimate doesn't include a detail you initially wanted to include— for example, you wanted to include specific wall tile— or you simply need to change the scope after the estimate has already been created. This guide covers the best way to handle that, both before and after an estimate exists.
Best practice: refine on the Scope Review page first
The best results come from spending time on the Scope Review page before you generate the estimate. This is where you review what the AI captured from your plans and photos and fill in any gaps. Adding the trades, materials, and details you want here — up front — produces a more accurate estimate and saves rework later.
If the estimate is already generated
If the estimate already exists and you need to add a missed trade or detail, use the Estimate AI Assistant to add it to the existing estimate:
Open the estimate and click the AI Assistant chat icon on the Edit Estimate page.
Describe what's missing and ask the Assistant to add it to the current estimate — for example: "Add wall tile to the primary bathroom, approximately 120 sq ft, mid-range finish."
Review the changes the Assistant proposes and confirm they land in the right category.
The AI Assistant works best for smaller, targeted additions. If you need to change large portions of the scope, it's better to return to the Scope Review page and regenerate — see Returning to the Scope Review Page After an Estimate Is Generated.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
I get an error when adding a trade. Try a smaller, more specific request (one trade at a time), and include quantity and quality/finish where you can. If you try several times and the assistant is unable to process the request, you may have hit the context limit for the AI Assistant and may need to duplicate the project to have a clear chat and context history.
The Assistant added the item to the wrong category. Ask it to move the item, or adjust the category manually in the estimate editor.
It's a big change — should I just start over? For major scope changes, returning to Scope Review and regenerating usually gives a cleaner result than many small edits.
Quick Reference
Before generating: refine everything on the Scope Review page — that's the best place to catch missed trades.
After generating (small addition): open the AI Assistant → describe the missing trade with quantity/finish → ask it to add to the estimate.
After generating (large change): return to Scope Review and regenerate.
